Basement waterproofing in St. Louis

The Flood Team helps homeowners, businesses, and property managers reduce future water problems with basement waterproofing, drainage support, sump pump solutions, foundation water guidance, and prevention planning after basement flooding or repeated water damage.

If your basement has flooded before, prevention should start after cleanup and drying are complete.

What is basement waterproofing?

Basement waterproofing is the process of reducing the chance of water entering or staying inside your basement. It can include drainage improvements, sump pump support, foundation water management, moisture control, sealing, and prevention planning based on how water is getting into the property.

For The Flood Team, waterproofing connects directly with the restoration process. First, the water damage needs to be cleaned up and dried. Then the source of repeated water problems should be reviewed so the property has a better chance of staying dry in the future.

When do you need waterproofing?

Waterproofing becomes important when water keeps entering the basement, crawl space, or lower level of the property. Even small recurring water issues can lead to mold, odors, damaged materials, and future repair costs.

Your basement floods during rain

Heavy rain, poor drainage, foundation cracks, and grading issues can push water into the basement or lower level.

Water keeps coming back

If the same area gets wet after storms, the property may need drainage, sump pump, or foundation water support.

You had a sump pump failure

A failed or overwhelmed sump pump can lead to standing water, basement flooding, and repeated cleanup needs.

You see damp walls or floor cracks

Moisture stains, damp concrete, cracks, peeling paint, or water marks can point to ongoing water intrusion.

The basement smells musty

A musty smell can mean moisture is staying in walls, flooring, framing, or hidden areas.

You want to prevent mold

Basement moisture can increase mold risk. Waterproofing and moisture control can help reduce future problems.

Common causes of basement water problems

Before choosing a prevention plan, it is important to understand where the water is coming from and why it keeps entering the property.

Poor exterior drainage

Water can collect near the foundation when gutters, downspouts, grading, or yard drainage send water toward the property instead of away from it.

Foundation cracks

Cracks in foundation walls, floors, or joints can allow water to seep into the basement during rain or snowmelt.

Sump pump problems

An old, clogged, undersized, or failed sump pump can allow water to rise and spread across the basement.

Window well leaks

Poorly draining window wells can collect rainwater and allow it to enter through basement windows or surrounding areas.

Hydrostatic pressure

When water builds up around the foundation, pressure can push moisture through cracks, joints, floors, and walls.

Repeated storm water intrusion

Storms can expose weak points in drainage, foundation protection, sump systems, and unfinished basement areas.

Insurance documentation support

Photos, moisture readings, affected-area notes, and repair scope details can help make the claim or approval process easier to manage.

What should you do after repeated basement flooding?

Clean up and dry the water first, then look for the reason it keeps happening. Repeated basement flooding usually needs both restoration and prevention.

Remove the water

Standing water should be removed quickly to reduce damage to flooring, walls, stored items, and building materials.

Dry the affected area

Basements can hold moisture behind walls, under flooring, around trim, and inside hidden materials.

Check for mold risk

A damp basement can create mold and odor problems if moisture is not controlled.

Find the water source

Look for drainage issues, foundation seepage, sump pump failure, window well leaks, or storm water entry points.

Plan prevention

Once the basement is dry, waterproofing and drainage improvements can help reduce future flooding risk.

Our waterproofing and prevention process

The best prevention plan starts with understanding the water damage history, the source of moisture, and what the property needs after cleanup.

01.

Inspect the water problem

We review the affected basement, crawl space, foundation areas, sump system, drainage concerns, and visible moisture signs.

02.

Check affected materials

Moisture can affect drywall, flooring, trim, framing, insulation, stored items, and hidden areas.

03.

Identify the likely source

Water may be coming from rain, foundation seepage, drainage issues, sump pump failure, plumbing leaks, or sewer backups.

04.

Recommend next steps

The next step may include cleanup, drying, sump pump support, drainage improvements, foundation attention, repairs, or mold prevention.

05.

Support repairs and prevention

After drying, affected areas may need repairs, reconstruction, or waterproofing support to reduce repeat damage.

06.

Document the condition

Photos, moisture readings, affected-area notes, and recommendations help create a clear record of the problem.

The Flood team did a very good job for the mitigation. We did not have any issue after the job was done. Blake gave an estimate, and final price was the same. We had another company estimated, and told us a loose estimate, may be more after the job is done and we have to sign that agreement. We didn't like that. Blake responded very quick and came in a few days after we signed the contract. He kept his words about days when he will be at the house. The other company told us at least a week or more. Blake's estimate was reasonable compared to the other company. He also gave us some knowledge about things which are covered under our insurance. I highly recommend him and the flood team. We will use them again if needed in the future.

The Flood Team did a very professional job mitigating the water from our 900 square feet basement. One of the rooms was finished, and they were able to save the carpet. They were able to tow away our damaged goods the same day and carried them all upstairs. They bricked all our furniture for the drying process and promptly and accurately recorded saturation eta the following days to be sure the basement was drying as expected. When the insurance adjuster came to view the damage, a flood team representative came back out to be here in case there were any technical questions about the mitigation process they executed.

Reached out to Flood Team and Thor came the same day. He was professional, knowledgeable, considerate and a hard worker. Once Thor determined the areas that water existed underneath the underlying floors, he pulled up all damaged flooring. He also took extra care when moving my furniture, he strategically set up humidifiers and industrial fans on two floors to speed up the drying process. He checked in daily to give updates. Highly recommend

Waterproofing can help reduce moisture, and moisture control is important for mold prevention. If mold already exists, the affected area should be inspected and handled before repairs or finishing work.

Common causes include poor drainage, foundation cracks, window well leaks, sump pump failure, heavy rain, clogged gutters, grading issues, and hydrostatic pressure around the foundation.

If the basement is already flooded, water removal and drying should happen first. Waterproofing and prevention planning can follow once the area is dry and the source is understood.
