Three Tips for the Holidays

Hey Everyone and Merry Xmas Eve!

With the season being so hectic there are a lot of things that can go wrong. We want to make sure that doesn’t happen to you. So with that in mind we want to give you ‘The Big 3’ tips to getting through the new year without any water damage.

1. The first one is an important one for people who are going out of town. Do not turn off your heat while you are gone. If your heat is off your pipes can freeze. Frozen pipes crack. A crack will cause leaks and that is not something you want to come home to. Then not only will you have flood damage to repair, but also a plumbing bill too.

2. Don’t overfill your garbage disposal. I know the word garbage is in the name, but that does not mean you can throw everything in there. The disposal can only handle small amounts at a time. Continual overuse will cause your pipes to clog. Once that happens they back up and flood all over the place. This again means a plumber and remediation bill (seeing a pattern?). We love the garbage disposal as much as the next guy, but remember to use it wisely.

3. Watch your guests TP use. Not really our favorite topic, but that just makes it more important. Children (and a lot of adults) don’t think about the amount of toilet paper they are flushing. This combined with having more people in your house really puts a strain on your pipes. We recommend that you check for clogs and children’s toys proactively. This will really reduce the amount of incidences throughout the season, and you won’t be starting the new year with a bunch of unexpected bills.

So that’s it. There are a lot of things that can cause flooding, and you can have any of these problems throughout the year, but now is the time to really keep it in check. Have a happy holiday and we look forward to seeing you next year. Remember we are available 24/7 if you have any questions or needs during the winter break.
